Halcyon In Kaleidoscope features irregular and fragmentary writings - on ideas and values, places and people - which evolve over time into mini essais, paying humble homage to the peerless founder of the genre. The kaleidoscope is Halcyon's prime metaphor, viewing the world through ever-moving lenses.

A Mundane Comedy is Dom Kelleher's new book, which will be published in 2025. The introduction is available here and further extracts will appear on this site and on social media in the coming months.

Knowledge

Quote 1587

Knowledge cannot be managed - only the space in which it is created - Ikujiro Nonaka

Quote 1586

KM is like the environmental problem. Everybody thinks it's important, but very few people change their behaviour in order to solve the problem - Eelco Kruizinga, Kenniscentrum, CIBIT

Quote 1585

KM has become a hot topic precisely because we silently recognise that our information isn't yielding understanding. But information is unsatisfying because it's managed; to make it manageable, we strip out context and voice. So, if we identify something called knowledge and then insist on managing it, we'll repeat the problem that gave rise to our desire for knowledge. Conclusion? If you want to get past information, you have to give up all hope of managing your - and others' - understanding of the world. Also, you can't do it yourself: all understanding is social by definition - David Weinberger ,The ClueTrain Manifesto

It's the best possible time to be alive, when almost everything you thought you knew is wrong - Tom Stoppard, (Arcadia, Act 1 Scene 4)

Quote 1583

It is better to know less than to know too much that isn't so - Josh Billings

Quote 1582

Instead of the conventional wisdom of "build a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door," it's about building a better path - Stan Davis (author, Future Perfect)

Quote 1581

In almost every business knowledge accounts for an increasing proportion of added value. Why have a strategy for bottles but none for wine? - Thomas Stewart, Fortune, 09/11/98 p105

Quote 1580

In Africa when an old man dies, a library disappears - Kofi Annan

Quote 1579

Imagination is more important then knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world - Albert Einstein

Quote 1578

If you have knowledge, let others light their candles at it - Anon
