Halcyon In Kaleidoscope features irregular and fragmentary writings - on ideas and values, places and people - which evolve over time into mini essais, paying humble homage to the peerless founder of the genre. The kaleidoscope is Halcyon's prime metaphor, viewing the world through ever-moving lenses.

A Mundane Comedy is Dom Kelleher's new book, which will be published in 2025. The introduction is available here and further extracts will appear on this site and on social media in the coming months.

Knowledge

Quote 1567

Do not argue with a fool, for people will not be able to tell the difference between the two of you - African tribe Igbo

Quote 1566

Companies which make effective use of knowledge will soon start to streak past those which don't, who will look on with as much uncomprehending bemusement as Neanderthal Man watched our ancestors - Mick James, 2003

Quote 1565

Clearly, knowledge is seen as the engine for value-creation. What lies in the future is/must be grounded in values, competencies and the quality of relationships. It is an economy of open access rather than knowledge being perceived and managed as a 'private good'. The reasons are because of the bountiful nature of the resource and its quality to multiply as it is shared with others - The Global Momentum of Knowledge Strategy, Debra Amidon, 1999

Quote 1564

Brains are becoming the core of organisations- other activities can be contracted out - Charles Handy, (interview, February 1994)

Quote 1563

As always, where the work still has to be done is in the human use of knowledge management tools from pencils and paper on up to the most sophisticated thinking tools. The tool makers should not forget that it is people's beliefs, purposes, attitudes, skills and relationships which are both the source of the difficulties and the solution - Jan Wyllie, 1998

Quote 1562

Anyone in the organisation who is not directly accountable for making a profit should be involved in creating and distributing knowledge that the company can use to make a profit - John Browne, former CEO of BP

Quote 1560

A man who knows nothing does not know that he knows nothing - African tribe Ganda

Quote 1559

A love affair with knowledge will never end in heartbreak - Michael Garrett Marino

Quote 1558

A library is a thought is cold storage - Lord Samuel
