Halcyon In Kaleidoscope features irregular and fragmentary writings - on ideas and values, places and people - which evolve over time into mini essais, paying humble homage to the peerless founder of the genre. The kaleidoscope is Halcyon's prime metaphor, viewing the world through ever-moving lenses.

A Mundane Comedy is Dom Kelleher's new book, which will be published in 2025. The introduction is available here and further extracts will appear on this site and on social media in the coming months.

Values

Quote 2939

What we must decide is perhaps how we are valuable, rather than how valuable we are - Edgar Z Friedenberg

Quote 2938

What may overturn the West?s liberal civilisation is not the very few who hate it, but the vast majority of Westerners who are indifferent to their heritage. Americans and Europeans created a fantastic civilisation on the back of optimism, science, individualism, liberalism, economic growth, and Christian compassion. We are losing faith in these touchstones, even in true personal liberty and social equality. Without belief in ourselves and our civilisation, we have no need of external enemies to seal our fate - Richard Koch , co-author of Suicide of the West

Quote 2937

We would indeed be far better off attempting to get to the root of what values we hold fast to, which moral questions matter to us and how we can understand the particular juncture we find ourselves in today as a society, rather than having another debate about the fallout between Islam and the West - Alan Miller , director of the NY Salon www.nysalon.org

Quote 2936

We will not win the battle against this global extremism unless we win it at the level of values as much as force, unless we show we are even-handed, fair and just in the applications of those values to the world - Tony Blair

Quote 2934

We need business to give practical meaning and reach to the values and principles that connect people and cultures everywhere - Ban Ki-moon

Quote 2933

We must train many people with world views and world abilities, because there are so many world issues to solve and so many wonderful new professions devoted to the - Robert Muller

Quote 2932

We believe that the most precious things we have are our ?res publica? - the things we have in common ? our values, our principles, our community, our freedom, our earth - http://www.therespublica.org/Vision.htm

Quote 2931

We are fighting a war but not just against terrorism but about how the world should govern itself in the early 21st century, about global values - Tony Blair

Quote 2930

We all have values and I am prepared to die for mine - Jack Alderman, US Death Row prisoner protesting his innocence http://www.exoneratejack.org/
