See Pan the Piper dancing in the greenwood dawn...Earth, Water, Fire, Air, dancing round the Maypole...at Beltane, light a Beltane fire, high on the skyline - from Ancient Dream, by Aeolian Songspell
The "Maienschein" - literally, "May-light" or "May-shine" in the above photo epitomises the green glow of sunlight through spring leaves.
Faces bathed in dew and Druids in white before dawn at Beltane on Arthur's Seat; Jack-in-the-Green, the bluebell woods, the Queen of the May and gaily coloured ribbons; Summerisle and its seasonal incantations..."groweth sed and bloweth med" and of course, "the apple tree that grew for you and me".
So many memories, some deeply personal, others from the shared, ancient and ever new gallery of the unconscious...once again, "come First of May"
May Day 2024 saw us at 5.30am at the A A Milne and E H Shepard memorial, enjoying the Ashdown Forest Morris Men welcoming in the summer.
