'I was really delighted to read that a big design award - the Saachi design award - has gone to the people who have developed a thing called 'Life Straws'. This is something I saw a while ago which is a potential life saver. It is a small water filter - 25cm long which filters nearly (99%) of water borne diseases from fresh water. They last about a year and cost 2US$. his is a lot for the people who would be using them but nothing to those of us who could potentially buy them for the various charities on developing countries.
