Theodore Zeldin's magnum opus teems with original and humane ideas, many having a direct influence upon the evolution of Halcyon.
Zeldin, whom I had the pleasure to meet in Oxford in 2008, says that "enough is known, enough has been written, about what divides people; my purpose is to investigate what they have in common". This is work worthy of a lifetime, perhaps of many people's lifetimes.
