On Now

Now

Dave Pollard wrote thought-provokingly of the "Now Time”, a multidimensional recursive eternal present familiar to aboriginal cultures the world over, and recalling Friedrich Nietzche's desire to be a "yes-sayer" to each moment.

This recalls Camus' celebration of Sisyphus starting afresh each day and more recently, Eckhart Tolle's "power of now".

What is the world we live in now like? Commemorating a few years ago the 50th anniversary of Woodstock, the Financial Times lamented the fact that the festival defied today's twin deities of commodification and monetisation. We live today in a cultural atmosphere that is pretty much the polar opposite of the Woodstock vibe: non-mellow, non-peaceful, uptight and hyperactive.
