I have been a proud member of Lions Heraldic in Brussels since 2006. 2017 sees the centenary of the global Lions movement, started by Melvin Jones in Chicago.
Highlights include:
- More than 20 special videos and historic audio of Melvin Jones.
- 100 years of history, including how Lions stepped up to help after the 9/11 attacks in The Day that Changed America – and Lions Clubs.
- How Lions are planning to meet the second century of service in The Evolution of Service
A 2010 study released by the World Health Organisation, shows that blindness has been reduced globally by nine percent, or 26 million people, since 2004. Through SightFirst, Lions have had a significant role in this achievement. he study shows that the prevalence of visual impairment has been significantly reduced from 311 million in 2004 to 285 million in 2010. Of these, 246 million have moderate to severe visual impairment, while an estimated 39 million people are blind, compared with 314 million with moderate to severe visual impairment and 45 million blind in 2004.
Lions have now launched a five-fold humanitarian framework.
