Halcyon In Kaleidoscope features irregular and fragmentary writings - on ideas and values, places and people - which evolve over time into mini essais, paying humble homage to the peerless founder of the genre. The kaleidoscope is Halcyon's prime metaphor, viewing the world through ever-moving lenses.

A Mundane Comedy is Dom Kelleher's new book, which will be published in 2025. The introduction is available here and further extracts will appear on this site and on social media in the coming months.

Values

Quote 2887

In Britain, only 8% of employees are 'strongly of the view that their values and those of their organisations are very similar', only 14% are proud of their organisation, only 30% feel loyalty to it. - Theodore Zeldin http://edition.cnn.com/2005/TECH/07/05/vision.zeldin/

Quote 2884

For me, values are not only about creating within the organisation a sense that people feel better, it is also about actually being better; doing the right thing. That is much more important to young people today than 10 or 20 years ago. The young graduates we recruit are increasingly asking questions about corporate and social responsibility, values, what differences we seek to make, and at the same time they have questions in their mind around whether big business is good or whether big business is just inherently bad. 'So the values journey for us is about making sure we can create confidence that actually...big business is good. And that's not touchy feely and soft, actually it's pretty hard - Mark Otty, chairman, Ernst & Young UK

Quote 2883

Does humanity only value thing in pounds, dollars and euros? Or can we get to a new era of value; one where our happiness, our ability to be creative and where the knowledge that you are working with Nature and not destroying the future of the next generation to come is given a value much greater than that which can reside in a bank account? - Mark Boyle, http://www.justfortheloveofit.org/blog.php?id=834

Quote 2882

Conflicts originate mainly because of intolerance and a lack of commitment to a peaceful resolution of differences. Such a commitment to peace and progress through dialogue has to be brought about by restoring public faith in the immense potential of human values and dialogue as the means to resolving differences - http://www.clubofamsterdam.com/content.asp?contentid=610

Quote 2881

Centre attention on the evolution of human values and consciousness as the crucial factors in changing course ? from a race toward degradation, polarisation, and disaster to a rethinking of values and priorities so as to navigate today's transformation in the direction of humanism, ethics, and global sustainability - Ervin L

Quote 2880

Back of every noble life there are principles that have fashioned it - George Horace Lorimer
